04 was a bit taken back suddenly by the way Starr had used the word 'we' and 'promise', the way she threw out her pinkie as well dumbfounded 04 to the point that it showed on her face. The nostalgia that seemed to hang around the other female's words struck something inside of her that 04 knew very well, something she could understand; nostalgia was what her entire existence was based on, what her mind swam in every waking hour. It haunted her in her dreams and found her at the most unlikely times, sometimes it was the worst and other times it saved her from herself. Those memories were everything to 04, and 04 wondered if Starr truly felt the same.
Composing herself, clearing her throat, she nodded in silence as she reached forward with her pinky awkwardly. Her hand hovered in the air away from Starr's for a few moments as some thoughts crossed through her head, doubtful ones about how everything that was happening was a sort of game. It was as artificial as The World, as much of game of pretend as the one they were actually in. 04 wanted to believe that what Starr was saying was all sorts of true, that she truly felt all of those things, but in her mind all she could see was some sort of facade that Starr might have been putting on. Where did all of that doubt and all of that insecurity stem from? Perhaps she had just been let down too many times before.
Yet, she still brought her hand in and hooked her pinky into the others. The warmth she felt, despite the artificial nature of the game, was strong. The look on her face, the empty one of thought twisted unconsciously into one of happiness. Chuckling, she thought to herself that she would rather live this lie than disconnect from it all. "You're the biggest girl scout I know, Starr."

It was things like these, small pinky promises and a genuine smile between friends that really wanted to make her work hard. It was really what made life really worth living. As a child she had always made these promises with her parents, and it meant so much to her then to know that inside her heart she held onto someone's promise. Something that was meant only for her. A promise just for her to keep.. That's why this was so very important to her, no matter how small and insignificant a simply pinky promise might be, she was going to take this promise super seriously!
Starr felt the warmth of 04's pinky as it linked with hers, and she knew now that they each held each other's promises of making this world.. [The World], the best place they could. The girl found herself giggling now at the girl scout comment, not minding it as much before she put on a serious face. "You know now that I'm really for seriously going to hold you to this promise!" Her cheeks were puffed out as she continued, "No way you can back out or else.. I'll tease you for the rest of eternity!" Of course the seriousness had long faded and now she really did sound like a little kid. But she didn't care. She was happy, really happy, that 04 had decided to take her up on her pinky promise.
It was another step closer to maybe really becoming friends. "Or worse I'll make you promise on scouts honor!" She said, holding up two fingers. Or wait.. maybe it was three? She looked at her hand puzzled for a moment as she attempted to think. "I don't think I'd be a very good girl scout," the girl added.

All of the happiness that was radiating from Starr, all of the ways that she was being casual and carefree and lively like someone her age should be made 04 feel a lot on the inside. It felt nice to be around someone like Starr, it made her feel really special deep down on the inside, it made her feel like there was someone out there who would remember her even if she would come to fade away like an old photograph. Eternity, to live forever was something that only a few special people could achieve. 04 wanted that more than anything, but she didn't want to become notorious or memorable because of politics. She wanted people to remember her for who she was as their friend, as someone who was there in their life. That was all she wanted, all she truly lived for, and it was where she found her place to belong.
The way Starr threatened to tease her forever made 04 laugh out loud, louder than she could remember she had done in quite some time. "It's okay, you're too cool to be uniform like that" she said through her laughter. Taking a deep breath to compose herself, the hand that she had used to pinkie swear with the other female she brought to her face to cup her cheek in. This was spontanious, something else, and she felt good to be able to lose herself in sudden happiness that seemed to have sparked out of no where.

It's true Starr didn't get many compliments. But being cool? That's one she never received before. Her cheeks flushed a bit again, but strutted a bit of a pose, probably making her to total opposite of the compliment she received. She also really enjoyed the laughter she heard from 04, especially because she hardly saw her even smile sometimes in the office, much less laugh. "You have a really pretty laugh!" she said happily, loosing her silly pose and complimenting the other girl, a few giggles slipping out. "You know, I really wouldn't mind be a girl scout, after all they have cookie." Thin Mints, Caramel De Lites, Peanut Butter Patties.. oh man her mouth was watering just thinking about them! The terrible green uniform would totally be worth it, no matter how much it would totally clash with her hair! "Maybe I should order a whole bunch for the office, it would be a totally sweet treat right?" she asked. Who didn't love girl scout cookies? Maybe some health nut, but this was an office full of gamers, they'd eat anything.
"Oh man speaking of the office I think there's a meeting soon," she said suddenly panicked. She really needed to keep better track of things like these.. Starr really couldn't count the number of times ended up late to a meeting or sometimes not even showing up at all because she forgot! She really needs to write that stuff down, but she forgets to do that too. A bit of a defeated sigh passed her lips as she tried to focus herself by putting her fingers on her temples and thinking. "Think think think!"

04's cheeks flushed as well when Starr had told her that she had a pretty laugh, her eyes immediately meeting the floor as the embarrassment she felt began to overwhelm her. It was weird, being complimented, it was especially weird to be complimented about something like that. 04 couldn't explain it, but she dwelled on it in her head; she kept repeating those words over and over and over again inside of her, as if she needed to hear them that many times.
She had kept concentrating so long on the words that she had almost missed the statement about ordering cookies for everyone in the office. How selfless Starr was, wanting to give so much to everybody around her. 04 was not like that at all, and yet she desperately vied for everybody to acknowledge her or say something to her. She figured she was just one big watching contradiction, and enigma with no home and no soul. 04 wouldn't have much time to think about it when Starr began to freak out herself!
04 came back to 'reality', her eyes fluttering as she looked back up at Starr with a confused look on her face. "There is?" she asked, thinking on it as well. "I didn't hear anything about no meeting," she added, running her hand through her hair to push the bangs that fell over her face back. "Wasn't it next week? Maybe. I think...?" 04 didn't know either, whoops.
